Secretary-General UN Antonio Gutriss visited Kartarpur where he was received by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorulhaq Qadri and by the assassination committee of the Sikh Gurdwara. The Secretary General of the United Nations was given a special briefing in regard to Kartarpur in which the historical significance of the Sikh community’s holy place was given, he was also inspected in different parts of the Kartarpur complex in which he took special interest.
Antonio Gutriss was also briefed by the Government of Pakistan on the Kartarpur Transit Extension project, which described Pakistan’s efforts to provide easy access to the Sikh community despite India’s obstruction. The Secretary-General visited the private university in Lahore earlier, addressing the role of youth in the United Nations in the 21st century, and also visited a local school where children were vaccinated against polio. Antonio Gutriss will also visit the historic royal fort and royal mosque in Lahore today.
